Barzani urges unity at Sheikhan rally for KDP
KDP Deputy Leader Nechirvan Barzani rallied thousands of supporters in Sheikhan on Saturday, calling for votes for KDP List 275 ahead of parliamentary elections set for Nov. 11. Barzani stressed that a robust KDP delegation in Baghdad remains vital to defend the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights and ensure continued stability. He appeared with Yazidi leader Mir Hazem Beg and regional candidates at the campaign event.
Barzani praised Sheikhan as a model of coexistence where Yazidi, Muslim and Christian residents live together peacefully. He recalled how local communities stood united against threats from the Anfal campaigns through the ISIS conflict. The deputy leader said that full implementation of Iraq’s constitution, after two decades of partial enforcement, stands among the party’s primary objectives.
The KDP platform centers on expanding Kurdistan’s political leverage in the national capital and protecting minority rights. The party pledges to advance education, healthcare and infrastructure while promoting economic development. Observers view the Sheikhan rally as part of a broader strategy to secure districts that strengthen the party’s role as a stability guarantor across the Kurdistan Region.
