Gautam Gambhir ducks ODI query on Kohli, Rohit

India head coach Gautam Gambhir dismissed speculation about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s ODI future, with the 2027 World Cup still over two years away. He emphasized staying focused on the present and said their experience would help during the upcoming ODI series in Australia, starting October 19 in Perth. Kohli and Rohit, retired from Tests and T20Is, are part of a squad led by Shubman Gill.

India faces a packed calendar, with ODIs and T20Is against Australia, followed by a full home series versus South Africa. Gambhir noted the importance of match preparation, praising players who featured in India A and domestic matches. He stressed that professionalism means adapting quickly across formats.

On the pressure of coaching, Gambhir said performance defines success. He acknowledged that criticism is inevitable without results and added that a coach’s role is to build a strong, secure environment for players. Ultimately, he said, the team’s performance is what defines both the coach and the captain.
