Ab-Soul – I, Myself and Me featuring Doechii
Ab-Soul wanted to honor his late friend “Doe Burger” on his latest album, Soul Burger. Doe tragically died in 2021. Ab-Soul is one of the most extended members of TDE. He told Billboard how important Doe was and still is to him and this album. Ab-Soul said they were yin and yang in many ways. He wanted to channel Doe as best as possible to keep him close. Ab-Soul doesn’t know how he’s making music without Doe. He believes Doe must be with him. This is an album Ab-Soul feels Doe wanted him to make. Doe was a true tastemaker, and Ab-Soul valued his opinion. Doe was a real artist himself.
Ab-Soul hopes Doe would be proud of the album. Ab-Soul thinks Doe would be pleased with the album, especially the song with Doechii called “I, Myself & Me.” Doe always wanted Ab-Soul to make more danceable songs on Soul Burger. However, the album still has Ab-Soul’s classic style with deep, detailed songs. “I, Myself & Me” is one of those songs. Ab-Soul shares his pain and thoughts on this powerful and emotional track. He talks about self-doubt, music industry stress, and people’s expectations for him. But through Doe’s spirit, Ab-Soul shows some resilience. It might be the best song of the week and one of the best of the year.
