Anwar hails ASEAN energy talks as key step toward regional power trade
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim praised the energy conference between Southeast Asian energy ministers as “the most substantive.” He highlighted key outcomes from ASEAN’s regional energy policy, particularly the swift endorsement of a multilateral agreement that supports complex transborder energy supply projects.
Anwar noted that despite global challenges like decarbonization, supply security, and affordability, ASEAN, with 680 million people, remains one of the fastest-growing economies. He emphasized the importance of managing these issues responsibly. ASEAN is targeting its first multilateral power trade by 2030 through the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), a regional initiative aimed at improving energy security and making power affordable and sustainable. The Laos-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project serves as an example of this vision.
