Atanasov warns of Russian threat to Bulgaria’s security

Bulgaria faces national security threats from the war in Ukraine, according to Atanas Atanasov, leader of Democrats for the Power of Bulgaria and a member of Parliament from PP-DB. He urged officials to safeguard key infrastructure sites against potential sabotage operations linked to Russian networks active across Europe.

Atanasov told BNT that Russian interests have taken control of Bulgarian government buildings near the Iskar dam, which provides water to the capital. He said authorities have failed to inspect these structures or determine their contents. The lawmaker noted that these facilities remain under the control of what he described as a hostile nation.

The parliamentarian addressed American sanctions against Lukoil and Rosneft, noting that Donald Trump’s efforts to broker peace in Ukraine had not succeeded. He criticized the Investment Promotion Act as violating constitutional principles and accused SANS of attempting to advance political agendas in the refinery sale. Atanasov stated that the New Beginning Party answers to Peevski and lacks independent authority.
