Sacheva claims non-voters control Bulgaria’s politics
Non-voters outnumber voters by two to one and shape Bulgarian politics, GERB-SDF parliamentarian Denitsa Sacheva told BNT. She described Zhelyazkov’s administration as a minority government and said GERB appreciates parties that back the cabinet in achieving policy objectives. GERB and MRF New Beginnings cooperate to advance Bulgaria’s eurozone membership rather than abandon progress midway.
GERB refuses to accept blame as a catch-all explanation for others’ failures, which drives the party’s demand for collective accountability, Sacheva said. She noted parliament cannot pass laws without GERB votes. Addressing Borisov’s comments in Razgrad, she clarified that he fears destabilizing forces rather than criminal elements, adding that GERB maintains operations across all 28 districts.
Sacheva anticipates that the BSP will review the proposal to rotate the National Assembly Speaker. She stressed this does not strip anyone of position, with Raya Nazaryan remaining GERB’s nominee. The 2026 budget stays on schedule and avoids major reforms near eurozone entry, remaining within practical and necessary parameters, she added.
