Bulgaria fuel market stable despite Lukoil sanctions

Bulgaria’s fuel market will not face disruptions or price hikes due to U.S. sanctions on Russian oil firms Rosneft and Lukoil, said Svetoslav Benchev, head of the Bulgarian Oil and Gas Association. He told BTA that fuel supplies remain ample, gas stations operate normally, and the market is stable.

Benchev explained that the U.S. sanctions apply only to American entities and citizens and do not directly affect Bulgaria or other countries. Although oil prices rose over 3 percent in Asian trading, he does not expect the increase to persist or reach significant levels.

The U.S. warned it may take further steps if Russia refuses an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. Britain recently imposed its own sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil, and the European Union enacted its nineteenth sanctions package, which bans imports of Russian liquefied natural gas.
