Dimche Yamandiyev criticizes double agent schemes in Macedonia and Bulgaria
Bulgarian civic leaders are demanding accountability after individuals in North Macedonia claimed they operated as intelligence operatives serving multiple countries while holding Bulgarian credentials. Dimche Yamandiyev, who heads the Ilinden Association, questioned revelations from Vane Tsvetanov about allegedly working as a compromised asset during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Yamandiyev called for comprehensive financial reviews of organizations receiving state funding and immediate cessation of support to entities potentially advancing foreign objectives. He argued that authentic Bulgarian supporters in Macedonia faced persecution while operatives with divided loyalties secured resources and influence.
The association chairman urged authorities to clarify whether such recruitment practices continue and publicly identify current partnerships. He emphasized that legitimate Bulgarian interests cannot advance through covert arrangements that ultimately serve external powers rather than national objectives.
