Edo Assembly clerk under investigation for age falsification

Edo State’s House of Assembly is in turmoil after allegations surfaced that the Clerk, Alhaji Yahya Audu Omogbai, falsified his age to extend his time in office. Staff are crying foul, claiming Omogbai is way past the mandatory retirement age of 60, having been appointed in 1993, meaning he should have retired long ago. The House Service Commission is not backing down, launching a full investigation with a three-man committee tasked to dig deep into the scandal. The drama thickens as Omogbai allegedly tried to block the probe by withholding key records—yet the commission is pressing forward with its investigation to clean up the mess.

Meanwhile, the involvement of the EFCC in staff verification is dividing the workforce. Some workers are furious, claiming it goes against the usual process, while others welcome the anti-corruption agency’s role, suspecting payroll fraud and ghost workers lurking in the Assembly’s ranks.
