Father fights for son’s Malaysian citizenship after 19 years

A dedicated father in Sarawak has successfully obtained Malaysian citizenship for his son, Yu Liang, whom he raised alone after the boy’s mother returned to Indonesia in 2004. Despite the challenges of single parenthood, Go Wak How provided love, care, and education for his son.

Wak How took all the necessary steps, including a DNA test and ensuring his name was on Yu Liang’s birth certificate. However, the Home Ministry initially rejected the citizenship application, leading Wak How to seek help from DAP Stampin in late 2023.

After a lengthy process, Yu Liang’s citizenship application was approved in July. Wak How’s story highlights the perseverance and love behind every citizenship application, and Yu Liang now proudly holds his Malaysian identity card.
