FIFA to launch ASEAN Cup to boost regional football

FIFA will partner with Southeast Asian nations to create a regional soccer competition that mirrors the Arab Cup format. The governing body and ASEAN signed an updated agreement at a summit in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday to establish the FIFA ASEAN Cup for member countries.

President Gianni Infantino said the event will strengthen national teams and advance the sport across the region. FIFA plans to collaborate with the Asian Football Confederation and local soccer associations to determine competition rules and structure.
