Gambhir hails Gill after Windies series win
India head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Shubman Gill’s development as Test captain after the 2-0 series sweep over the West Indies, calling the England tour his real test. Gill, who took over the role after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirements, led India to his first home Test series win, capped with a seven-wicket victory in New Delhi.
Gambhir said Gill earned the role through hard work, not favoritism, and credited him for leading by example. He highlighted Gill’s resilience during the tough five-Test series in England and how the team has responded well under his leadership.
Asked about mental conditioning, Gambhir joked that he might need one more than Gill. He stressed the importance of staying present rather than looking ahead to future tournaments. Gill scored 192 runs in the series, including an unbeaten 129 in Delhi.
