Grozdan Karadzhov orders sale of government Falcon jet at auction
Bulgaria’s deputy prime minister has directed state aviation authorities to auction the government Falcon jet through open competitive bidding to maximize proceeds. Grozdan Karadzhov cited annual operating expenses averaging 4.4 million leva against minimal utilization of 290 hours, with mandatory overhaul costs alone reaching 6.76 million leva.
The official noted that routine maintenance expenses for the smaller aircraft run five times higher than those for the government Airbus A319, which offers greater capacity and efficiency. Pilot and technical staff training requirements similarly cost five times more for the Falcon.
Karadzhov indicated that revenue from the sale and eliminated maintenance budgets could fund forest firefighting aircraft, search and rescue infrastructure, and crew training programs. He emphasized prioritizing citizen safety and environmental protection over maintaining redundant executive transport capabilities.
