Illegal chemical warehouse behind deadly Dhaka fire

The chemical warehouse that caught fire on Tuesday in Mirpur was listed as an illegal establishment, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence. Three notices had been issued to the warehouse, Alam Traders, and relevant authorities had been notified. The fire broke out around 11:30 am, causing explosions and spreading to a nearby four-storey building. Sixteen bodies were found in the building, which housed a T-shirt printing factory and an apparel factory. Due to the hazardous chemicals, a full search of the warehouse has not yet been conducted, and it may take 36 to 72 hours. Firefighters controlled the fire at the garment factory the same day and at the chemical warehouse the next afternoon.
