India defeats Malaysia 2-1, enters Sultan of Johor Cup final

The Indian junior men’s hockey team defeated Malaysia 2-1 in their final pool-stage match at the Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 in Johor, Malaysia, securing a spot in the final against Australia.

India took the lead with Gurjot Singh’s goal in the 22nd minute, while Malaysia equalized through Naaveenesh Panicker in the 43rd minute. Sourabh Anand Kushwaha scored the winning goal for India in the 48th minute. India dominated possession throughout the match, with Malaysia pressing for an equalizer in the final quarter. Despite some strong attacks from Malaysia, India held firm to win 2-1.

India will face Australia in the final on October 18 at 1805 IST.
