KL Strike Force rescues 545 homeless in capital, tackles rising social issues

The KL Strike Force operation, aimed at tackling homelessness in Kuala Lumpur, has rescued 545 individuals, including 180 foreigners, between February and early this morning. The operation focused on key areas such as transportation hubs and commercial zones, identifying 16 homeless hotspots, including the UTC Pudu pedestrian bridge and Bukit Bintang. Federal Territories Social Welfare Department (JKM) director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh explained that the operation aims to improve the city’s environment and protect its image internationally.

Che Samsuzuki emphasized the need for ongoing efforts to address homelessness, noting that some individuals face recurring challenges due to a lack of family support. Each individual rescued undergoes screening by several agencies, including the police and the Ministry of Health. In the latest operation, 101 individuals were rescued, with some sharing their struggles, like Kumar, 59, and Daud, 45, who became homeless due to unstable income and personal hardships.
