Madagascar coup leader takes presidential power
The leader of Madagascar’s military coup, Col. Michael Randrianirina, said he will take the presidency. The military plans to govern for up to two years before holding elections. Col. Randrianirina told The Associated Press that he would be sworn in soon and that the transitional period would last 18 months to two years. The coup followed protests against President Andry Rajoelina over corruption and inflation.
