Mliswa accuses Charamba of sabotaging Mnangagwa
Former lawmaker Temba Mliswa has accused presidential spokesperson George Charamba of betraying President Emmerson Mnangagwa while the leader faces internal political challenges. Mliswa posted allegations on his X account on Monday, claiming Charamba has a pattern of disloyalty and failed to defend Mnangagwa when rivals attacked him within the ruling party.
The politician cited Charamba’s past conflict with Grace Mugabe and questioned how he remained in government while others fled. Mliswa stated that exiled former minister Jonathan Moyo defends the president more effectively than Charamba does from outside the country. He also criticized government spokesperson Nick Mangwana for weak responses to opponents who have abandoned diplomatic protocol when addressing Mnangagwa.
The accusations emerge as Zanu-PF confronts reported divisions in its leadership. Vice President Constantino Chiwenga submitted a document in September accusing Mnangagwa of corruption, and presidential allies later called the dossier treasonous. The ruling party voted on Oct. 18 to extend Mnangagwa’s term until 2030, and Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said constitutional amendments would follow.
Neither Charamba nor Mangwana has responded publicly to the allegations.
