Ninova slams new water meter fee as unjust
Cornelia Ninova, leader of “Nepokorna Bulgaria,” criticized a new water meter fee as absurd and unjust. She said people will pay for access to water even if no water flows or if only mud comes from their taps. Around 200,000 lack water but must still pay; another 150,000 receive dirty water yet face the same charge, on top of paying for actual usage.
She cited a recent KEVR report showing 70–80 percent of water is lost through old pipes, with losses exceeding 82 percent in places like Pernik, Shumen, and Sliven. She called it unacceptable that citizens pay for such waste and mismanagement, calling the policy a “managerial mockery.”
Ninova noted that one in five Bulgarians lives below the poverty line, 11.7 percent of workers are working poor, and nearly 800,000 pensioners struggle financially. She accused the government of favoring a privileged few while burdening families, small businesses, and the middle class. Despite the Bulgarian Socialist Party and 30 other left-wing parties being part of the coalition, she labeled the government the most anti-social since the transition. She demanded that the water meter fee be scrapped as unfair, corrupt, and harmful to society.
