Parliament wrangles over health law revamp

Bulgarian lawmakers will review amendments to the Health Insurance Act on Wednesday as the first item on their weekly agenda. Health Minister Silvi Kirilov told a parliamentary committee that the changes address the requirements of the Recovery and Resilience Plan and establish procedures for medical associations’ participation in National Framework Agreement negotiations.

The National Assembly schedule features first readings of bills amending consumer protection laws and legislation governing witness protection in criminal cases. Deputies will also examine proposed changes to public enterprise regulations introduced by Anna Alexandrova and fellow legislators from the GERB-SDF coalition.

On Thursday, parliament will establish procedures for selecting the director general of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency before advancing Defense and Armed Forces legislation to second reading. On Friday, representatives will address state property management protocols and conduct regular oversight sessions.

The cabinet submitted the health insurance revisions, which give the Bulgarian Medical Union authority to invite healthcare professional representatives to contract discussions. Parliament will also consider ratifying multiple international agreements.
