Pedestrian killed by falling bearing pad at Farmgate

A falling component from an elevated train track killed a pedestrian on Sunday afternoon in Dhaka’s Farmgate neighborhood, prompting officials to halt rail service while investigators examine the structure. The rubber bearing pad struck a man walking beneath the Krishibid Institute section around 12:30 p.m., and he died at the scene from head injuries. Police have not identified the victim, whose body was taken for autopsy, as authorities opened a formal inquiry.

Officer Mobarak Hossain from Tejgaon Police Station confirmed that a heavy part had dropped from overhead infrastructure where it connects the support columns to the elevated guideway. The component also destroyed a tea shop beside the walkway. Metro officials suspended operations to inspect the system after a similar spring detachment occurred in September between two stations, raising questions about structural maintenance practices across the transit network.
