Penang sees 28.7% drop in crime cases from January to September

The crime index in Penang has significantly decreased from January to September, with 2,400 cases reported, compared to 3,847 during the same period last year. Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said this represents a 28.7 percent drop, or 1,447 fewer cases. Violent crimes also fell by 18.3 percent, from 732 cases to 591, while property crime dropped by 27.6 percent, from 2,500 cases to 1,809.

Azizee credited the success to the teamwork and dedication of all Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel in Penang, ensuring the state’s safety. He emphasized that public safety in Penang is under control.

However, commercial crime cases increased, with 13,777 reports and a total loss of RM174.6 million. Azizee urged public awareness of the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) hotline (997) to combat online fraud. He also thanked PDRM personnel for their hard work and called on the public to support efforts in maintaining security.
