Rivers Judiciary frees 150 inmates to decongest custodial centres

The Rivers State Judiciary has released 150 inmates from Maximum Security Custodial Centres as part of its goal delivery for the 2024/2025 legal year. Of these, 109 inmates were released by Magistrate Courts, and 41 were released by Chief Judge Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi. The release took place at the Port Harcourt Maximum Security Custodial Centre on Wednesday, marking the start of the 2025/2026 legal year. The initiative, aimed at decongesting custodial centres, is based on constitutional and humanitarian grounds. Justice Amadi urged stronger cooperation among law enforcement agencies and advised the released inmates to stay away from crime.
