Rumen Radev criticizes Parliament over referendum proposal rejection
President Rumen Radev accused Bulgarian lawmakers of perpetuating legal violations after the Constitutional Court ruled that former parliamentary speaker Natalia Kiselova improperly dismissed his referendum proposal on eurozone membership. The head of state rejected claims that legislators cannot proceed because his supporting documents were returned, asserting that all materials remain within parliament offices awaiting submission to the plenary floor.
Radev challenged deputies to retrieve his proposal and justifications from their administrative offices and present them for debate and voting, questioning whether representatives would honor democratic principles or disregard public will. He emphasized that the court ruling requires parliamentary action and noted he has no obligation to resubmit materials already held by the legislature.
The president criticized the current assembly for generating disorder rather than legislation, characterizing morning parliamentary proceedings as a theatrical distortion of legal requirements.
