Trump, Zelensky meet at White House to discuss Ukraine, Putin summit
US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky have started talks at the White House. The meeting follows Trump’s phone call with Russian President Putin, where they agreed to hold a summit in Budapest, Hungary.
Trump mentioned that their discussion would include the recent call with Putin and the possibility of sending new weapons to Ukraine, although he acknowledged that this could escalate the conflict. Zelensky had requested Tomahawk missiles from the US, which could reach Moscow and beyond.
Trump also pointed out that both leaders want to end the conflict, but tensions between Putin and Zelensky are hindering a resolution. Zelensky emphasized the need for weapons and security guarantees to push Putin into negotiations.
