Zhelyazkov hints at Christmas aid for pensioners
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced that his government will attempt to provide holiday payments to retirees during the Doctors We Trust awards ceremony in Sofia. The official recognition event, hosted annually by the newspaper 24 Chasa, honored physicians selected by patients for outstanding medical service.
Zhelyazkov detailed healthcare priorities, including expanded HPV vaccination coverage across additional age brackets and the National Plan to Combat Cancer, featuring new screening programs for colon and cervical malignancies. The administration has proposed allocating a 15 percent larger budget to the National Health Insurance Fund for the coming year, with nine-tenths earmarked for medical coverage payments. The premier presented an award to Dr. Yanko Pandeliev from Varna, who completed more than 5,000 preventive health examinations.
