Zimbabwe hands out US$150 bonuses amid unrest
The government gave civil servants US$150 each as a bonus to help with the festive season. The money will be paid in two parts, one in November and one in December. Minister Edgar Moyo said this is to improve the lives of workers.
The government also plans to fix wages and improve healthcare for workers. They are working on a housing plan for civil servants, with 26,000 stands in Harare and Bulawayo.
Many workers are unhappy with low salaries. Some have left their jobs, especially in teaching and health.
There are also protests planned against the government’s plan to extend President Mnangagwa’s term.
