208 Naxalites surrender in Chhattisgarh, key leader defects
In a big event in Chhattisgarh, 208 Naxalites gave up their fight and surrendered. They handed over 153 weapons, including rifles and grenade launchers. The former rebels came holding the Indian Constitution, showing they want a new life.
Among the surrenders were leaders like Rupesh, a senior commander. His surrender, along with others, weakens the Maoist group in the area. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai called this a key moment in the fight against extremism, highlighting the region’s focus on education and self-reliance.
The government has made progress with many Naxalites being arrested or surrendering. Chhattisgarh aims to be free of Naxalism by 2026.
