African Union, IGAD mourn loss of Raila Odinga
The African Union Commission’s Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expressed profound sorrow over the death of Raila Odinga, calling him a “distinguished statesman of the African continent.” Youssouf praised Raila as a champion of democracy, good governance, and people-centered development, noting his influence stretched far beyond Kenya. His contributions, especially as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development, helped shape initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Youssouf honored Raila’s legacy, saying he was a visionary leader whose dedication to justice, unity, and democracy would echo for generations. IGAD also paid tribute, recognizing Raila as a Pan-African icon whose example would guide future leaders.
