Alan Kyerematen urges Mahama to adopt 10-point plan to end galamsey
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Leader and Founder of the United Party, has urged former President John Dramani Mahama to adopt his 10-point action plan to combat illegal mining, known as galamsey. Kyerematen introduced the plan in 2024 as part of his Great Transformational Plan (GTP), which he believes offers a more structured and sustainable solution to the problem. He criticized current government measures as inconsistent and ineffective. His plan includes a one-year ban on all small-scale mining, a full audit of mining licenses, and revocation of existing licenses. It also proposes legislation to permanently ban mining in rivers and forests, with life imprisonment for violators, and initiatives to support young people transitioning to responsible mining.
