Ghana Births and Deaths Registry handles human remains import, export
Mr. Adom Botchwey, Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, has discussed the institution’s role in managing the export and import of human remains. In an interview on Accra 100.5 FM, he explained that the Registry handles all necessary documentation when a foreign national dies in Ghana or when a Ghanaian’s body needs to be repatriated for burial. He emphasized that the Registry is responsible for these procedures, in addition to its main task of registering births and deaths. Botchwey also noted that the Registry operates 261 offices nationwide, many within hospitals, to ensure smooth service delivery and to support national development through accurate demographic data.
