Court dismisses Adu Boahen’s request to halt GHS49m theft trial
The High Court in Accra has rejected an application from lawyers of former National Signals Bureau Director-General, Kwabena Adu Boahen, to halt his criminal trial pending an appeal. The court had been asked to stay proceedings until the Court of Appeal decided on a challenge to a previous ruling regarding further disclosures for the first and second accused in the case.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has dropped charges against Mildred Donkor, the third accused in the GHS49 million theft case involving Adu-Boahen and his wife. Donkor was discharged after agreeing to become a prosecution witness. Her testimony will help the prosecution build its case against Adu-Boahen, his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, and their company, Advantage Solutions Limited. Donkor had earlier dismissed her lawyer and shifted her legal strategy in court. She explained her nominal role in the company and her lack of decision-making power.
The case involves allegations that Adu-Boahen used his position to divert GHS49.1 million from the National Signals Bureau into private accounts, with no cybersecurity equipment delivered as per the contract. The money is said to have been used for property and luxury car purchases.
