Alibaba defends polygamy, says it promotes stability
Veteran comedian Alibaba has stirred the pot on polygamy, claiming it can serve both practical and cultural roles. In an interview with Nedu, Alibaba argued that multiple wives might actually promote stability, as it encourages cooperation and curbs tension among spouses. He suggested that when a woman knows there’s another in the mix, she’s less likely to misbehave.
Alibaba also recounted stories from traditional Ibadan, where women encouraged their husbands to take extra wives to avoid infidelity. He added that sometimes, polygamy arises from necessity, like when a man dies and his brothers step in to care for his wife. While admitting the topic is controversial, Alibaba stressed that polygamy has its place in certain cultures, even if critics don’t always practice what they preach.
