Analysts say Specsov pick is move by Peevski, Borisov

Political analysts described the appointment of Rumen Specsov as special governor as a strategic maneuver by Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borisov that underscores ongoing power dynamics within Bulgarian politics. Petar Cholakov suggested the selection represents another tactical victory for Borisov over the PP coalition, though he emphasized Specsov holds limited actual authority in the arrangement.

Lyubomir Stefanov indicated that significant decisions affecting Bulgaria originate externally, citing potential US-Russia negotiations involving Lukoil as evidence that local officials cannot substantially influence major agreements. The analyst expressed concern about administrative competence rather than intentional obstruction regarding Lukoil Neftokhim operations.

Cholakov characterized the situation as part of a sustained power competition while noting that President Radev’s political initiative has gained momentum according to unofficial polling data. Stefanov identified Peevski as the foundational element of the current government structure despite ongoing controversies surrounding his political standing.
