Bangladesh Army officers face war crimes charges over student deaths
The Bangladesh Army is facing mounting heat as over 150 active and retired officers are in the crosshairs of the International Crimes Tribunal. These officers are being investigated for their involvement in horrific attacks on students, dissenters, and their role in forced disappearances and killings. A new charge sheet is expected to land against them between Tuesday and Thursday, with arrest warrants possibly following soon.
Sources reveal the list will also target Army chiefs who served between 2009 and 2025. The violence unleashed on students during last year’s protests saw security forces kill hundreds, with snipers even firing from helicopters. Some top Bangladesh Air Force officials may be named in the charges.
There are whispers of a deeper plot involving top brass from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, all reportedly working behind the scenes. Allegations include shady dealings with major political figures and pushing a radical agenda. Meanwhile, a pro-Jamaat faction inside the military is planning drastic action, including targeting officers they see as a threat.
