Bangladesh held to 1-1 draw by 10-man Hong Kong in AFC Asian Cup qualifiers
Bangladesh kept their slim hopes alive in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers with a 1-1 draw against 10-man Hong Kong, China at the Kai Tak Stadium on Tuesday. Despite dominating possession in the second half and having a man advantage for the last 15 minutes, Bangladesh couldn’t find a winner to boost their qualification chances.
Hong Kong took the lead in the 35th minute after Bangladesh’s Tariq Kazi fouled an opponent in the penalty area. Captain Matthew Orr converted the spot kick, giving Hong Kong a 1-0 lead. Bangladesh struggled to create clear chances in the first half but came out more aggressive after the break.
The game shifted in the 76th minute when Hong Kong’s Oliver Gerbig was sent off for a second yellow card. Bangladesh capitalized on the extra man in the 84th minute when Rakib Hossain scored from a Fahamedul Islam cross. Despite pushing for a winner, Bangladesh couldn’t find another goal, and the draw leaves them on the edge of elimination from Group C.
