Bangladesh to build FIFA-funded football center by 2025 or lose $2.5M grant

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has been allocated approximately BDT 30 crore (about USD 2.5 million) under FIFA’s Development (Forward) Project to build a long-awaited Technical Center. However, the grant comes with a key condition: if construction doesn’t start by December 2025, the money must be returned.

To address concerns over the deadline, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, assured that progress is being made. He confirmed that the project is currently under review by the Land Ministry, and they are confident the deadline will be met.

The BFF’s plans for a ‘Center of Excellence’ began nearly three years ago, with land initially selected in Khuniapalong, Cox’s Bazar, before being shifted to Rashidnagar. Once approved by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, construction will begin.

Bhuiyan also stressed the need for a clear long-term vision for sports development, criticizing the lack of strategic planning in Bangladesh. The new FIFA-funded Technical Center aims to provide modern facilities, including a natural grass field, artificial turf, gym, swimming pool, and academic spaces for footballers.
