Barbalov says Bulgaria economy steady in EC data
Bulgaria’s economy demonstrates strong performance according to European Commission statistics, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Doncho Barbalov told BNT. He emphasized that government and private sector collaboration remains essential for continued prosperity while defending the national budget as equitably structured despite concerns from various stakeholders.
Barbalov expressed confidence that officials will resolve pension holiday bonus funding after conducting financial analyses and budget implementation reviews. He acknowledged chronic social security contribution shortfalls linked to demographic challenges but dismissed fears of declining foreign investment.
The deputy minister anticipated fuel market stabilization following the government’s appointment of a special manager at Lukoil and sanctions exemptions secured from Washington and London. He expressed optimism about euro adoption progress while recognizing that persistent risks require ongoing attention.
