Barzani thanks France for Peshmerga Alley, discusses Iraq elections

In a heartfelt meeting on Tuesday, President Masoud Barzani expressed deep gratitude to French Ambassador Patrick Durel for the recent naming of “Peshmerga Alley” in Paris, calling it a powerful recognition of the Peshmerga’s heroic fight for freedom. The ceremony marked the enduring friendship between France and the Kurdistan Region, a bond solidified through mutual sacrifices, including France’s pivotal role in the 1991 no-fly zone that protected Kurds from Saddam Hussein. The discussion also touched on Iraq’s upcoming elections, with Barzani voicing reservations about the current flawed electoral law but reaffirming Kurdish participation. He called for all parties to unite post-election to pass a fair, transparent election law that upholds constitutional rights.
