BNP expels four leaders over violence, road blockades

Bangladesh’s main opposition dismissed four regional officials on Monday after they allegedly participated in highway disruptions and clashes stemming from disagreements over legislative nominations.

Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the removals late on Monday through an official statement identifying the ousted figures as Alauddin Moni and Helal Uddin Babor, who led the volunteer division in Sitakunda subdistrict, along with Mamun from the municipal committee and Momin Uddin Mintu of the youth wing in Sonaichhari. Party documents accused the quartet of organizing roadblocks on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway near Kadam Rasul, Bhatiari Bazar and Jalil Gate during evening hours on Monday.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party stripped all four of their organizational positions and revoked their basic membership status for conduct authorities described as harmful to community welfare. The disciplinary action follows internal tensions over candidate selection as the party prepares for upcoming parliamentary voting.
