Boney Kapoor raised Sridevi’s fee

Producer Boney Kapoor discussed how he increased actress Sridevi’s payment rates before their marriage. The film executive appeared on a comedy program where he explained meeting the performer’s mother in Chennai to negotiate contracts. He offered 11 lakh rupees when her family requested 10 lakh rupees and later arranged a 15 lakh rupee deal with director Yash Chopra for the film Chandni. Kapoor continued raising her compensation to 25 lakh rupees for Khuda Gawah, setting progressively higher amounts than the family initially requested.

The producer wanted Sridevi to work opposite his brother in Joshilaay after she was cast with Sunny Deol. Her mother handled business negotiations despite language barriers between them. Kapoor researched market rates and learned she had previously accepted 8.5 lakh rupees for another project. The actress died on Feb. 24, 2018, in Dubai at age 54 from accidental drowning with heart failure as a factor.
