Borisov backs 120 leva for pensioners
Bulgaria’s governing GERB party has suggested 120 leva holiday payments for low-income retirees as parliament prepares to review the 2026 budget framework. Party leader Boyko Borisov indicated the proposal requires consultation with coalition allies before finalization, with legislative consideration of social insurance and health fund allocations preceding broader fiscal discussions.
Borisov dismissed opposition allegations regarding an undisclosed meeting with business figures Rumen Spetsov and Valentin Zlatev, stating no such gathering occurred. He defended the proposed spending plan as uncommonly generous while confirming that Bulgaria has satisfied European Union requirements for eurozone membership, rejecting calls from the Vazrazhdane party to organize a referendum on euro adoption.
