Vazrazhdane demands early elections
Bulgaria’s opposition Vazrazhdane party is demanding fresh legislative elections following parliamentary leadership decisions that prevented consideration of a eurozone referendum proposal. Deputy parliamentary group chairman Petar Petrov accused National Assembly officials of violating constitutional provisions by blocking debate on the measure and restricting parliamentary participation rights.
Petrov characterized the current government as having exhausted political credibility through procedural manipulation aimed at forcing eurozone entry without public consultation. The Constitutional Court previously ruled against similar restrictions imposed by transitional leadership.
The legislator warned that preventing citizen input on monetary policy establishes precedent for future limitations on democratic freedoms and urged immediate government resignation before public patience expires.
