Bulgaria may clear air corridor for Putin en route to Trump summit

Bulgaria would grant an air corridor for Russian President Vladimir Putin to travel to Budapest for talks with US President Donald Trump if a request is made, Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev said on Monday in Luxembourg. Georgiev told reporters that facilitating peace efforts requires providing all possible means for participants to attend such meetings. He emphasized that Bulgaria supports proposed sanctions against Russia, but maintains that peace negotiations require Ukraine’s direct involvement in any discussions about its future.

The foreign minister stressed that Bulgaria backs Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while working on Black Sea security infrastructure in a region bordering active conflict. Georgiev confirmed that Bulgaria supports starting EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. About North Macedonia, he expressed hope that post-election tensions would subside, but reiterated that constitutional changes must occur before negotiations advance.
