Bulgaria vows full eurozone integration by 2026
Bulgaria’s government leader declared that adopting the euro represents a strategic decision positioning his nation within a unified and powerful Europe as the country prepares to join the currency bloc on January 1, 2026.
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov addressed a high-level gathering at the Boyana residence on Tuesday, where the Finance Ministry and Bulgarian National Bank hosted officials for discussions about the transition. He said the objective extends beyond simple membership to achieving complete integration within European economic structures. Bulgaria will join more than 20 nations where 340 million people use the shared currency, Zhelyazkov added.
The conference forms part of government communications efforts surrounding the currency changeover. Officials emphasized that Bulgaria approaches a significant milestone in its development as it prepares to adopt the euro not as external money but as its national tender.
