Bulgarian bank millionaires hit record 2,061 in 2025

Bulgaria’s population of bank account millionaires grew to 2,061 by the close of September, marking an increase of 402 individuals from the previous year, according to Bulgarian National Bank data reported by pariteni.bg. These wealthy depositors collectively hold more than 4.9 billion leva, while accounts containing between 500,000 and 1 million leva rose by 858 annually to reach 4,433 total accounts.

The growth pattern extends across nearly all deposit categories, with mid-range accounts between 200,000 and 500,000 leva jumping 25 percent to 31,638. Only the smallest deposits showed marginal declines, reflecting a broader trend of cash conversion ahead of Bulgaria’s planned euro adoption on January 1. Corporate deposits above 1 million leva expanded by 1,024 to total 7,460 accounts.

Credit millionaires surged 63 percent year over year, with 472 households now carrying loans exceeding 1 million leva. Total deposits across all sectors reached 96.272 billion leva for households by September’s end, representing 13.1 percent annual growth, while business sector deposits climbed to 51.123 billion leva.
