Chinese security supervisor charged with murder after killing Zimbabwean man at mine
A Chinese national, Quijun Yu, 43, working as a security supervisor at Zhuhe Mining Investments in Mudzi, has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing Fungai Nhau, 36, on October 9, 2025. Yu suspected Nhau and his companions of attempting to steal from the mine and fired ten shots, one of which struck Nhau in the lower back.
Nhau was carried by his friends for about a kilometre before they left him behind. His body was found by mine workers at 7 AM, and he was later pronounced dead at Mutoko Hospital.
Zhuhe Mining is accused of offering a US$6,500 compensation package to Nhau’s family. Police are still investigating, and Yu remains in custody.
