Chittagong University holds first student elections in 30 years

Today marks a historic day for the University of Chittagong (CU) as elections for the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) and hall unions are held, ending nearly 30 years of dormancy. The campus is alive with student participation in this democratic process.

Dr. Shahidul Haque emphasized that a functioning Students’ Union is a basic right of every student, which had been denied for decades. The union, which should represent students’ voices, had been inactive, leaving many generations without proper representation.

The campus is filled with energy as candidates campaign across halls and hostels, showcasing a renewed sense of empowerment. The university is ensuring a smooth, fair election, with hopes that the elected representatives will fulfill both their official duties and the aspirations of their peers.
