OpenAI partners with Walmart for in-chat shopping in ChatGPT

OpenAI has partnered with Walmart to enable shoppers to make purchases directly through ChatGPT. This collaboration will allow users to buy Walmart products like meal ingredients and household items via instant checkout within the chatbot.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon stated that this will transform eCommerce by moving beyond traditional search bars. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman added that the partnership would simplify everyday purchases.

Though the launch date wasn’t specified, Walmart confirmed the feature would be available soon. This partnership marks a significant step in OpenAI’s push into online commerce, joining previous collaborations with Shopify and Etsy. Walmart, already using AI in its operations, aims to enhance customer experiences with new tech tools.
