Portugal held to 2-2 draw by Hungary in World Cup qualifier

Portugal were held to a 2-2 draw by Hungary in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier, delaying their qualification for next year’s tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, including a historic 41st World Cup qualifying goal, to put Portugal ahead after Hungary’s early goal by Attila Szalai.

Despite dominating much of the second half and hitting the woodwork twice, Portugal couldn’t hold on to their lead. In stoppage time, Dominik Szoboszlai struck a close-range equalizer to deny Portugal the win. Portugal remains at the top of Group F with 10 points, but will now have to wait until November to secure their place in the World Cup.
